On your marks, Get Red... GO!
Cyclists, runners and walkers helped raise money for Comic Relief by taking to the Red Nose trails of Alice Holt for 3 mile cycles and 1.5 mile walks and runs.
The charity event held on Saturday, organised and ran by the East Hampshire Youth Council was designed to promote physical activity, whilst encouraging people to have fun and raise money for Comic Relief.
Over 60 people and 20 teams entered the challenge, which enabled the Youth Council to raise £155 in challenge entries and over £200 in sponsorships so far.
The event appealed to a range of ages from those trying to spot the red nose signs in their push chairs to teenagers and parents enjoying a day out in the sun shine.
Cycle times were recorded and 1st place went to: The Bordon Punks who completed the 3 mile trail in just 18 minutes. 2nd place went to Team Jones, who completed the trail in 24 minutes, followed by 3rd place which was won by The Highly Flammables for completing the trail in 28 minutes. The team spirit award went to Team Helena and Louise who camouflaged themselves with mud for the occasion. The best fancy dress prize went to The Rebel Alliance, who had themed their costumes on Star Wars characters. The best fund-raisers award went to The Vampirettes and Bordon Punks, who had collectively raised £170 in sponsorships.
Lara Nolan, Youth Council Coordinator who had worked supported the Youth Council in their planning said:
‘We were very pleased with the turn out, particularly as this is the first outdoor event we have planned, so we hope to make it bigger and better in future years.’
